Seven months into its tenure, the BJP government in Chhattisgarh asserts that it is delivering on the promises made during its campaign. One such promise, the Ramlala Darshan Scheme, has been successfully launched. In addition to this initiative, the state government is now seeking assistance from the central government to construct a corridor linking Chhattisgarh to Ayodhya.
A Strategic Infrastructure Request
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recently met with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to request the designation of a 282 km road from Raigarh to Dharamjaigarh, passing through Mainpat and Ambikapur to the Banaras border, as a national highway.
This proposal includes a demand for Rs 1,383 crores from the Central Road Fund to finance 13 road projects, including two national highways within Chhattisgarh.
Boosting Religious Tourism
Improved road connectivity between Raigarh and Ayodhya is expected to significantly enhance religious tourism in Chhattisgarh. Since the construction of the grand temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya, there has been a notable increase in the number of devotees traveling from Chhattisgarh to Ayodhya.
In response to this growing pilgrimage, the state government has proposed the upgrade of the Raigarh to Dharamjaigarh, Mainpat, and Ambikapur road to national highway status.
Economic Development and Industrial Growth
Elevating the Raigarh to Banaras route to national highway status is anticipated to stimulate economic development. Enhanced transportation infrastructure will benefit existing industries in Raigarh, Dharamjaigarh, Mainpat, and Ambikapur, while also facilitating the establishment of new industries along the highway. This infrastructural development is expected to boost employment and improve the overall economic condition of the region.
Promoting Tourism in Chhattisgarh’s Mini Shimla, Mainpat
Mainpat, known as Mini Shimla, stands to gain significantly from its connection to the national highway network. Situated at an altitude of 3,781 feet above sea level on the Vindhya mountain range, Mainpat is a picturesque location rich in natural beauty. Enhanced accessibility through national highway status is expected to attract more tourists, thereby promoting Mainpat as a notable destination and potentially gaining it national recognition.
