France Elections: Leftist coalition New Popular Front ahead; what its leader said about Palestinian state

Surprising results are expected in the French parliamentary elections.

The far-right National Rally party, which was leading in the first phase, is surprisingly coming in third place in the latest estimates.

This has been possible due to a strategic agreement between leftist and centrist parties.

A week ago, the far-right National Rally (RN) party was leading in the first phase, but now it seems that the New Popular Front (NFP) is headed towards getting the most votes in the second phase.

President Emmanuel Macron's centrist party Ensemble Alliance is expected to come in second place.

'Will recognise the Palestinian state'

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the leftist coalition New Popular Front in the French parliamentary elections, has said that his coalition will recognise the Palestinian state.

In the recent past, four European countries - Spain, Norway, Ireland and Slovenia - have recognised the Palestinian state.

In the second and final phase of elections held on Sunday, the New Popular Front is leading with 182 seats and its role in the upcoming government is going to be prominent.

Mélenchon said that the next prime minister will be from the New Popular Front.

In the first phase of elections held a week ago, the far-right party National Rally was moving towards a majority, but in the second and final phase held last Sunday, it was reduced to third place.

President Macron's centrist coalition remained in second place.

Leftist supporters taking out victory processions

After the trends of the French parliamentary elections came out, violence was seen at some places in the capital Paris. On the other hand, leftist supporters have been taking out victory processions on the streets of Paris in large numbers since Sunday night.

The leftist block is leading in the second and final phase of elections held on Sunday. After these trends, thousands of people gathered on the streets of Paris.

The French newspaper Le Monde has presented a picture of the latest results based on the government's vote counting data.

According to this, in the results so far, the leftist block, New Popular Front is leading with 182 seats.

President Emmanuel Macron's centrist party Ensemble Alliance has got 168 seats and the National Rally and its allies, which were leading in the first phase, have got 143 seats.

Thousands of people took to the streets of the capital to celebrate overnight after exit polls showed the far-right National Rally falling to third place, while violence broke out at some places.

Security has been tightened in Paris and riot police have been deployed.
