Manorama Khedkar, mother of controversial trainee IAS officer Pooja Khedkar, has been taken into custody by Pune police in connection with a land dispute.
Manorama Khedkar has been accused of threatening some people with a gun.
An officer has said that Pooja Khedkar's mother has been taken into custody by the police.
The police were looking for Manorama Khedkar and her husband Dilip Khedkar after a video of threatening people surfaced on social media.
This video is said to be from Dhadwali village of Mushli tehsil of Pune, in which Pooja Khedkar's mother is threatening some people with a pistol.
Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh told media that a case was registered against Manorama Khedkar last week.
Pankaj Deshmukh said, "Pune Rural Police was looking for her. She was taken into custody from Mahad in Raigad district this morning. She will be questioned and further action will be taken.”
Pooja Khedkar is currently under investigation for her disability, OBC caste certificate and her behaviour during training. The government has stopped her district training programme.
Meanwhile, the Lal Bahadur Shastri Administrative Academy in Mussoorie has called her back.
Controversy surrounding Pooja
Pooja Khedkar, a 2022-batch IAS officer of the Maharashtra cadre, gained attention after securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 841 in the UPSC exam. However, she recently sparked controversy by using her private Audi car adorned with a red-blue beacon light and a VIP number plate. Additionally, Khedkar demanded privileges typically unavailable to probationary IAS officers.
A report from Pune collector Suhas Diwse to the General Administration Department revealed that Khedkar persistently requested a separate cabin, car, residential quarters, and a peon before even starting her duties as a trainee on June 3. These demands were ultimately denied. Furthermore, her father, a retired administrative officer, reportedly exerted pressure on the district collector's office to meet her requests.
The controversy deepened when Khedkar was accused of removing the nameplate of a senior official at the Pune collector's office when he allowed her to use his ante-chamber as her office.
More serious allegations emerged, with reports suggesting that she submitted fake disability and Other Backward Class (OBC) certificates to clear the civil services exam. She also allegedly submitted a mental illness certificate.
In April 2022, she was directed to report to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, for verification of her disability certificate, but she did not comply, citing a Covid infection.
