Madhya Pradesh:Torrential Rains Cause Severe Flooding in Khargone; Tanker Swept Away; Rivers and Streams in Spate, See Details

Heavy rains in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, have led to the flooding of the Bankura River, causing widespread disruption. A municipality tanker was swept away in the sudden deluge, illustrating the severity of the situation. Continuous rainfall has inundated roads and homes in the towns of Sanawad and Barwaha, leaving residents in a state of distress.

The downpour, which began on Sunday, persisted into Monday, exacerbating the situation. The flooding of the Ruparel River necessitated the closure of the Khandwa-Jhirnya road for two hours, significantly disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters.

Across the Khargone district, rivers and streams are in spate due to relentless rains. In Sanawad, located 70 km from the district headquarters, the Bankur River surged dramatically. The unexpected rise in water levels swept away a municipal water tanker stationed on the riverbank. Despite the frantic cries of onlookers, the tanker was carried off by the floodwaters.

The deluge has led to severe waterlogging in various colonies, with water entering homes and submerging roads under 1.5 to 2 feet of water. Within three hours, the entire city was flooded, affecting neighborhoods such as Baheti Colony, Pandit Colony, Narmada Vihar Colony, Kashi Vihar Colony, Solanki Colony, Prayag Park Colony, and Adinath Colony.

Ruparel River overflowed

In the Jhirnya police station area, about 70 km from Khargone, the Ruparel River overflowed due to heavy rains in the surrounding hilly regions. This caused a significant traffic jam on the Khandwa-Jhirnya road, with numerous passenger buses and vehicles lined up on either side. Hundreds of people, including many farmers from Jhirnya, were stranded as the river's floodwaters blocked the road. The situation caused considerable anxiety, especially for women and children traveling in the buses, as they waited for the waters to recede.

Severe Water-logging in Barwaha

In Barwah, continuous rainfall over two days caused rivers and streams to swell to dangerous levels. The Chhoti Nadi River, passing through Barwaha city, overflowed after three hours of heavy rain, flooding the area. Water reached waist level in several houses, resulting in significant property damage and creating a river-like scene on the streets. Areas like Gopalpura, Pattibazar Maulana Azad Marg, and Kumhar Mohalla were particularly affected as the Chhoti Nadi overflowed and merged with the Padali River at Gangaur Ghat.

The relentless rains across Khargone district have wreaked havoc, disrupting daily life and causing extensive property damage. Residents are grappling with the aftermath of the flooding, hoping for the rains to subside and water levels to recede.
