Following the resignation of former Rajasthan BJP state president CP Joshi, Madan Rathore has been appointed as the new state president. Additionally, Radha Mohan Das Agarwal has taken on the role of the new in-charge of Rajasthan.
These significant organizational changes, occurring within eight months of the government’s formation, have stirred discussions about potential shifts within the Bhajanlal government’s cabinet. Speculation is rife that a cabinet reshuffle may be imminent, especially in light of the recent Lok Sabha election results. There are indications that several MLAs might be inducted into the new cabinet.
Performance-based selections
The BJP’s strategy appears to hinge on performance-based selections for the new cabinet. Areas where the BJP performed well in the Lok Sabha elections are expected to see MLAs joining the cabinet, while ministers with poor performance records are likely to be removed.
Why is cabinet expansion considered imminent
Rajasthan cabinet expansion is also considered certain because Kirodi Lal Meena has recently resigned from his ministerial post. Kirodi Lal Meena holds ministries like Agriculture and Horticulture Department, Rural Development Department, Disaster Management, Relief and Civil Defence Department, Public Prosecution Redressal Department.
Neither Kirodi Lal Meena's resignation has been accepted nor these departments have been allocated to anyone else. Kirodi Lal Meena was also unhappy because Panchayati Raj Ministry was not given to him. Whereas earlier, Panchayati Raj has always been given to the minister with Agriculture Ministry. But this time both the ministries have been assigned to different people. Panchayati Raj has been given to Madan Dilawar.
In such a situation, it is believed that reshuffle of the cabinet is certain. Since Kirodi Lal Meena's resignation has not been accepted, he can be appeased by giving him a new ministry, which is according to his wish. Apart from this, new experienced faces can also be given a chance.
Consideration of Assembly By-Elections
By-elections are going to be held in Rajasthan soon. In such a situation, the cabinet can be expanded keeping this in mind. Currently, 24 ministers including the Chief Minister are included in the cabinet. But it is believed that to keep every section happy, along with the category, attention can also be given to the youth.
Bid to regain the support of OBC voters
The appointment of Madan Rathore, who belongs to the OBC category, is seen as a strategic move to regain the support of this crucial voter base, which has shown signs of drifting away from the party. The OBC community is considered a core vote bank for the BJP, and this leadership change aims to solidify their support.
The party’s maneuver is aimed at ensuring favorable outcomes in the upcoming by-elections for five assembly constituencies, bolstering the BJP’s strength and influence in these areas.
