Continuous heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh have caused widespread havoc, submerging many villages in floodwaters. Rescue teams have been deployed to save affected residents. Heavy rains persist in regions such as Gwalior Chambal, Katni, Damoh, Satna, Orchha, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Umaria, and Mandla. Disturbing images are emerging from various parts of the state, highlighting the severity of the situation. The railway track in Katni is inundated, disrupting train services.
The Meteorological Department has indicated that relief is not yet in sight. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rains in 20 districts of the state and a yellow alert for several other districts. The red alert applies to districts including Sheopur, Khandwa, Hoshangabad, Dhar, Barwani, Betul, Satna, Rewa, and Katni.
Severe Flooding in Katni, rly track submerged
The heavy rains have severely impacted Katni district. Water has inundated the railway track at Imaliya railway gate between Sleemanabad and Dundi station, as well as nearby houses. This has forced trains to operate at reduced speeds between Katni and Jabalpur. The continuous downpour has caused bridges and culverts to overflow, creating flood-like conditions in many districts. In Katni, trains are running on submerged tracks, with water levels so high that the tracks are barely visible.
To prevent derailments, guards have been deployed to guide the trains. Given the critical situation in Katni, the government is monitoring the area 24/7. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations.
