Former MP from Kaiserganj and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has declared he will never be given another chance by BJP. Singh, who has faced sexual harassment allegations, was denied a ticket from Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha Election-2024.
Reflecting on this decision, Singh remarked, "The BJP will never give me a chance now. I know the party will not give me a chance. I don't dream like Mungerilal. Those who want to, can."
Back in May at the time of elections Singh was asked if the allegations had influenced the party's decision. He had responded, "My son has got a ticket."
Karan Bhushan Singh, his son, subsequently won the constituency that Brij Bhushan had represented since 2009 in the following general election.
Brij Bhushan acknowledges his bleak prospects
Speaking to reporters in Paraspur, UP, Brij Bhushan acknowledged his bleak prospects within the BJP. His removal from the Wrestling Federation of India's top position last year came amid significant controversy and protests by the nation’s leading wrestlers. The scandal prevented him from contesting the Lok Sabha election, leading to his son being nominated instead.
The trial related to the allegations commenced last week, with charges for sexual harassment, use of force against a woman, and criminal intimidation being brought against him. Singh has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, asserting, "When I have not committed any mistake, why will I admit it?"
'Yogi govt does not support criminals'
In a recent visit to his former parliamentary constituency in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh, Brij Bhushan made a stop in Paraspur. He was there to meet the family of Samajwadi Party leader Om Prakash Singh, who was murdered in broad daylight. Commenting on the murder case, Singh expressed confidence in the Yogi Adityanath government's stance against criminal activity, stating, "The Yogi Adityanath government does not support criminals. The police are working on the murder case. I demand financial help from the Chief Minister."
The unfolding of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's political and legal battles continues to draw public attention. His future within the BJP remains uncertain, marked by the ongoing trial and the party's clear distancing from him amid the serious allegations.
