Former US President Donald Trump has said that he was injured by a bullet on the upper part of his right ear after the shooting incident at his rally in Pennsylvania.
The former president said on his Truth social account, "After hearing a rustling sound, and the sound of bullets, I immediately understood that something was wrong and immediately the bullet touched my skin."
"A lot of blood had come out, so I realized what was happening."
The former president has thanked the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies for responding immediately to this incident.
He wrote in the post, "Most importantly, I want to express my condolences to the family of the person killed in the rally and also to the family of another person who was badly injured."
He said, "It is unbelievable that such acts can happen in our country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead."
He wrote at the end of his post, "God bless America!"
Several gunshots were fired at Trump
Donald Trump narrowly escaped the assassination attempt while delivering a speech at a rally in Pennsylvania when several gunshots were fired at him. The former US President was swiftly evacuated from the stage by security agents and is reported to be fine.
In a video capturing the horrifying incident, Trump is seen speaking to a large crowd of supporters when the gunshots ring out. After the first couple of shots, Trump appears startled, touching his right ear before ducking to take cover behind the stage dais. The crowd, visibly confused and frightened, also ducks to avoid being hit.
The Secret Service agents quickly responded, covering and escorting Trump off the stage. With his right ear visibly bleeding, Trump raised his fist in the air while being evacuated.
Trump is "fine" and is being checked at a medical facility, according to his campaign. "President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow," said spokesman Steven Cheung.
Biden condemned the attack
US media reported that two people, including the suspected shooter, were killed. "Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger said two people are dead, including an apparent shooter," The Washington Post reported.
President Joe Biden condemned the attack on his political rival. "I'm grateful to hear that he's safe and doing well. I'm praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information," Biden posted on X.
