Opposition parties have slammed the Union Budget-2024, labeling it as one designed to please the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) two major allies, the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Critics argue that the budget neglects pressing issues such as unemployment and the high inflation rate. Additionally, they claim that states not governed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have been overlooked.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Congress have announced plans to protest against what they describe as a discriminatory budget.
CMs of 4 states will not attend NITI Aayog meeting
In response, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and the Chief Ministers of three Congress-ruled states—Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Sukhu, and Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah—have decided not to participate in the Governing Council meeting of the NITI Aayog scheduled for Saturday. This decision was made during the India Alliance meeting held on Tuesday evening.
However, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will attend the NITI Aayog meeting to present the perspective of the states.
Following the budget presentation on Tuesday, the Congress criticized the budget as a copy of its manifesto. The party has accused Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of incorporating an internship program from the 2024 Congress manifesto into the budget. Congress says it had promised a similar internship scheme for youths in its manifesto.
