Dalit and tribal organizations have called for a Bharat Bandh on August 21 in protest against the Supreme Court's decision on the creamy layer in reservation for Scheduled Castes and Tribes.
The effect of this bandh is being seen in many states. Many services have been affected in Bihar and Jharkhand. Bus services have been badly affected in Jharkhand. Buses have not been able to leave the bus stations.
Bandh supporters are seen raising slogans on the streets in Jehanabad, Bihar. In Ara, Bihar, bandh supporters are protesting by sitting on railway lines.

Shops are closed in many cities of Rajasthan. The effect of the bandh is clearly visible in many states.
Protesters have stopped the Bihar Sampark Express in Darbhanga. However, the effect of the bandh is not being seen much in Uttar Pradesh.
Apart from Dalit organizations, many political parties in different states have also supported it.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has demanded the government to amend the Constitution in view of the Supreme Court's decision and has appealed to the Bharat Bandh to be organized peacefully without any violence.
Mayawati's nephew Akash Anand asked BSP workers to participate peacefully with the party flag during the Bharat Bandh.
RJD supports bandh in Bihar
Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar has supported this bandh while Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi called it 'Bharat Bandh of the opposition'.
In view of the bandh, the administration has tightened the security in many districts of Rajasthan. Orders have been issued to close educational institutions in many districts of the state.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, and the administration has been instructed to ensure that there is no violence during the bandh.
In Madhya Pradesh, the administration has given instructions to take special precautions during the Bharat Bandh.
It is worth mentioning that earlier on April 2, 2018, violence broke out in many places during the Bharat Bandh called by Dalit organizations and six people died in Madhya Pradesh.
Security arrangements have been made in UP for the Bharat Bandh. The government has tightened the security arrangements for this bandh.
Lucknow Police has imposed Section 163 (earlier 144) on August 17 itself. This prohibitory order has been imposed till September 14.
Lucknow Police said in its statement, "Apart from demonstrations at any place other than the designated dharna site without permission, drone shooting, entry of tractors, bullock carts and movement with lethal substances is prohibited."
The administration is being very cautious about this bandh and extra vigilance is being taken in sensitive districts. The administration has been put on alert mode by the government.
In many places, the district magistrates have instructed the concerned officials to ensure that there is no violence and the protests are handled peacefully.
Shahjahanpur District Magistrate Umesh Pratap Singh said, "It is our priority to conduct the bandh in a systematic manner and everyone should express their views in a disciplined manner while following the law."
The Bharat Bandh can have a wide impact in Rajasthan.
With this apprehension, the police-administration has also held a meeting with the officials of SC-ST organizations and appealed to maintain peace.
Most of the district collectors and superintendents of police have issued orders for tight security arrangements after holding a meeting on Tuesday.
Schools, colleges and coaching institutes closed in Rajasthan dists
The collectors of many districts including Jaipur, Barmer, Bharatpur, Deeg have ordered the closure of schools, colleges and coaching institutes. The closing time of schools has been changed in Balotra district.
In view of Bharat Bandh in Jaisalmer, Bharatpur and Udaipur, internet will also remain closed. It has been recommended to keep liquor shops closed in many districts including Jhunjhunu, Dholpur
Tight security arrangements in the Gwalior-Chambal area
The administration has made tight security arrangements in the Gwalior-Chambal area of MP. In the last bandh, most of the violence took place in this area.
Keeping this bandh in mind, the Dabra administration has deployed additional police force and drone cameras will also be used for surveillance.
Aarakshan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti and many local organizations have appealed to make the bandh successful. The administration is trying to avoid any kind of unpleasant situation. The administration is also on alert in Gwalior and other areas of Chambal.
Gwalior Collector Ruchika Chauhan has said that the police and administration are alert regarding the bandh.
She said, "The entire administration is alert. No one will be allowed to take law and order into their hands. If anyone creates any disturbance, strict action will be taken against him."
