Another mpox infection reported in this neighbouring country of India


Another case of mpox infection has been reported in Pakistan. According to the Health Ministry of Pakistan, the infected person is a resident of the Mardan district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa who recently returned from Gulf countries.


Wiith this three patients with the monkey pox virus have been identified in Pakistan, on their arrival from the United Arab Emirates, the health department in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has confirmed.


It is not clear yet which variant was detected in the patients. All the three patients have been quarantined.


A spokesperson for the Health Ministry stated that efforts are underway to identify individuals who may have come into contact with the infected persons, and samples are being collected for testing.


On Thursday, the Health Ministry issued an advisory regarding mpox, emphasizing that strict screening measures are being implemented at airports and all points of entry and exit.


Govt hospitals instructed to adopt precautionary measure


Additionally, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Health Coordinator for the Prime Minister of Pakistan, mentioned that government hospitals have been instructed to adopt precautionary measures, and the Health Ministry remains vigilant to address any potential developments.


Previously, Sweden reported its first case of mpox, with the infected individual having contracted the virus during a stay in Africa.


The World Health Organization has declared a global public health emergency in response to the spread of mpox in certain regions of Africa, labeling it a matter of international concern.


Mpox, previously known as monkeypox, is an infectious disease that has resulted in over 450 fatalities in the initial phase of its outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
