Narottam Mishra, once a formidable leader and former Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh seems to be facing an uncertain future within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Despite his earlier prominence, the BJP has recently passed him over for both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha elections, sparking speculation about his standing within the party.
The shift in his political fortunes began when Mishra lost his assembly seat in Datia, a significant blow that set off a series of events leading to his current predicament. Following his defeat, there were strong expectations that the BJP would offer him a chance to contest in the Lok Sabha elections, possibly from a seat in the Bhopal or Gwalior divisions. However, this did not materialize, as the party decided not to field him in the Lok Sabha elections.
Hope lingered that Mishra might be considered for a Rajya Sabha seat, a common move for leaders of his stature after such setbacks. Yet again, the BJP chose a different path, opting to send Union Minister of State George Kurien to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh instead.
These decisions have fuelled questions and concerns about Narottam Mishra’s role and future within the BJP. Has he been completely sidelined, or is the party reserving him for another significant role? The situation remains unclear, but it is evident that the once-powerful leader is now navigating a more precarious position within his party. The coming weeks and months are likely to reveal whether Mishra will regain his footing or continue to fade from the political spotlight.
