Ujjain: Laddus will be offered to Baba Mahakal in Shri Mahakaleshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. This tradition was started in the temple premises by Ujjain Collector, priests and women of their family. This Rakshabandhan, one and a quarter lakh laddus will be offered to Mahakal.
The making of laddus began five days back. On Wednesday morning, along with Collector Neeraj Singh, Pandit Ghanshyam Pujari, Sanjay Pujari, Ashish Pujari, Vikas Pujari, Manoj Pujari of Janoi Pati family inaugurated making of laddus amidst chanting of mantras.
Ujjain Collector Neeraj Singh performed the puja. He put laddus in the pan and said, "According to tradition, one and a quarter lakh laddus will be offered as prasad. After performing the puja, we have prayed to Lord Mahakal for the well-being of the countrymen."
According to the information, the women of the priest family make rakhis for Mahakal every year and also tie them on Rakshabandhan. After Bhasma Aarti, first of all a rakhi is tied to Baba Mahkal. Then laddus are offered as prasad. Rakhi making has started and it will be ready in the next four days.
Lord will be adorned with gold and silver ornaments
Special preparations are being made to make this festival special in the Mahakal temple. The women of the priest family are preparing special rakhis to tie to Lord Mahakal. Lord Mahakaleshwar will be adorned with gold and silver ornaments in Bhasma Aarti. The festival will be celebrated in Bhasma Aarti at 2.30 am on the day of Rakshabandhan on Sunday-Monday night.
Mahabhog of one and a quarter lakh laddus has special significance
The priests will perform Mahabhishek of Lord Mahakal with Panchamrit and fruit juice. After the divine adornment of Mahakal, the women of the priest family will tie a rakhi to Lord Mahakal. On Shravani Purnima, the Mahabhog of 1.25 lakh Laddus has special importance. The tradition of offering 1.25 lakh Laddus to God has been going on so that maximum number of devotees can receive the Prasad.
