Three people including a girl and a child died in Jaipur, Rajasthan on Thursday morning due to rainwater filling in the basement of a house.
A similar incident had come to light a few days ago in the Old Rajendra Nagar area of the country's capital New Delhi, in which three students died due to water filling in the basement of an coaching institute.
Confirming the deaths, Jaipur's Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Rajesh Jakhar said, "Three people have died due to water filling in the basement of a house in Dhwaj Nagar. The deceased include 23-year-old Kamal Shah, 19-year-old Pooja Saini and six-year-old Poorvi Saini. They were residents of Ara district of Bihar. The postmortem of the bodies is being done in Jaipur's Kanwatia Hospital."
On this incident that took place in Dhwaj Nagar of VKI police station area, station in-charge Rajendra Kumar said, "Due to heavy rain between 4 and 5 in the morning, the basement of the house was filled with water. All three have died due to drowning. On receiving the information of water logging, police and administrative officials reached the spot. The rescue team conducted rescue operation for several hours."
Waterlogging at Jaipur airport too
Along with many other areas of Jaipur, pictures of waterlogging have also surfaced at Jaipur airport. Waterlogging situation persists in many other areas of the state due to heavy rains.
According to the Meteorological Center Jaipur, more than 150 mm of rain has been recorded in Jaipur. According to the center, orange alert of rain has been issued at more than a dozen places.
Gehlot appeals to the people to be cautious
In view of heavy rains, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has appealed to the people to be cautious through social media. He has written, "Information of waterlogging and road collapse due to heavy rains is being received in Jaipur and some districts of the state. I appeal to the general public to be cautious and avoid overflowing drains, rivers and sewerage. Even a little carelessness can prove to be dangerous. ”
The former CM also wrote that the death of three people due to waterlogging in a basement in Vishwakarma Industrial Area, Jaipur is very sad. I pray to God to give peace to the souls of the deceased and courage to the family members. The state government should ensure that such accidents do not happen in future and innocent people do not have to lose their lives.
The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased in this accident. In this, Rs 4 lakh each has been sanctioned from disaster relief and Rs 1 lakh each from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
