US President Joe Biden speaks to PM Modi over phone, discuss Ukraine, Bangladesh


US President Joe Biden spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone on Monday. The two leaders discussed several regional and global issues, including Ukraine and Bangladesh.


PM Modi gave this information on social media platform X.


At the same time, a statement has also been issued by the White House regarding this conversation. Also, President Joe Biden made a post on social media platform X.


In its statement, the White House said that President Joe Biden spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They discussed the Prime Minister's recent visit to Poland and Ukraine as well as the United Nations General Assembly to be held in September.


The statement said that the President Biden also praised the Prime Minister Modi for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, which were the first by an Indian Prime Minister in decades, and his message of peace and humanitarian support in Ukraine, including the energy sector.


At the same time, President Joe Biden has posted on social media platform X. He wrote, "I spoke to Prime Minister Modi to discuss his recent visit to Poland and Ukraine and appreciated his message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine." 


Biden wrote in his post, "We have reiterated our commitment to work together to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region." 


India and the US have issued statements regarding this conversation between the two leaders. India has given information about the talks on the issue of Bangladesh in its statement. However, there is no mention of Bangladesh in the statement issued by the US.


PM Modi conveyed his appreciation for President Biden’s deep commitment for the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, which is based on shared values of democracy, rule of law and strong people-to-people ties.


The leaders reviewed the significant progress in bilateral relations and highlighted that India-US partnership is aimed at benefiting the people of both countries as well as the entire humanity. 


The two leaders had a detailed exchange of views on a number of regional and global issues.


While discussing the situation in Ukraine, PM Modi briefed President Biden on his recent visit to Ukraine. He reiterated India’s consistent position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy and expressed full support for early return of peace and stability.


The two leaders expressed their shared concern over the situation in Bangladesh. They emphasised restoration of law and order and ensuring safety and security of the minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.


The two leaders reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the cooperation in multilateral fora, including the Quad. They agreed to remain in touch.
