On Saturday, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat arrived at the Shambhu border to express her support for the ongoing farmers' movement. The farmers have been demanding that the government address their concerns regarding agricultural laws.
The farmers' agitation that has been going on for a long time at Shambhu border completed 200 days on Saturday. On the occasion of completion of 200 days of agitation at Shambhu border, farmers are gathering in large numbers and planning a big demonstration. Olympian Vinesh Phogat also joined this demonstration of farmers.
Phogat voiced her empathy for the farmers, stating, "People have been sitting here for 200 days. It is sad to see them. Farmers run the country. We are all citizens of the country. There is nothing without farmers." She emphasized the critical role that farmers play in sustaining the nation and highlighted their importance to the everyday lives of all citizens.
Vinesh also pointed out the connection between farmers and athletes, saying, "If the farmers do not give food to the players, they will also not be able to do anything." She expressed her frustration and helplessness over the situation, explaining that while athletes represent the country on major platforms, they are unable to contribute effectively when their families and the nation’s farmers are unhappy.
The wrestler urged the government to listen to the farmers' demands, noting, "This is a request to the government that the demands of the farmers should be heard. You had admitted that we have made a mistake, so you should fulfill whatever promises you made."
Vinesh stressed that the country's progress is at stake if such protests continue indefinitely: "Our country will not progress like this. If these people keep sitting on the roads like this, then nothing will happen."
When asked about the possibility of contesting in the Haryana assembly elections or her plans to claim a ticket for the elections, Vinesh Phogat declined to comment, maintaining her focus on the farmers' movement and avoiding political speculation.
