What Manish Sisodia said after coming out of jail?

AAP leader Manish Sisodia was released from Delhi's Tihar Jail on Friday evening, coinciding with a much-needed rainfall in the national capital. His release followed the Supreme Court granting bail in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.

Sisodia, who previously held multiple portfolios, including Education, was warmly welcomed by enthusiastic AAP supporters upon his release. Standing in the rain, he delivered a brief address, expressing profound gratitude.

"Ever since this order came in the morning, every inch of my skin has been feeling indebted to Babasaheb (Ambedkar). I don't understand how I will repay this debt to Babasaheb..." he stated.

He continued, "I have come out of jail due to your love, God's blessings, and the power of truth, and most importantly, the dream of Babasaheb—that if any dictatorial government comes to power and imprisons Opposition leaders through oppressive laws, then this country's Constitution will protect them..."

Sisodia headed to Kejriwal's residence

Sisodia assured his supporters that, with the strength of the Constitution, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would also be released from jail. Following his speech, Sisodia headed to Kejriwal's residence in Delhi's Civil Lines area.

This bail marks Sisodia's eighth appeal, although he had previously been permitted to visit his ailing wife last year. Both he and Chief Minister Kejriwal were arrested in March by central agencies in the liquor policy case. While Kejriwal has received bail in the case filed by Enforcement Directorate, he is still awaiting bail in case lodged by CBI.

Travesty of justice

Earlier today, the Supreme Court described Sisodia's nearly 18-month detention as a "travesty of justice," questioning the trial court and Delhi High Court for not addressing his right to liberty. The court emphasized that "in a matter pertaining to the life and liberty of a citizen—one of the most sacrosanct rights guaranteed by the Constitution—a citizen cannot be made to run from pillar to post." Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February 2023, followed by the ED 12 days later.
