Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has expressed strong condemnation toward the authorities in Hyderabad for what he describes as the "unlawful" demolition of his N-Convention Centre located in Madhapur. The actor emphasized that he would have voluntarily demolished the structure if the court, where the matter is currently pending, had ruled against him. However, the court had issued an interim stay order on the demolition work.
The authorities justified the demolition by claiming that the N-Convention Centre was built on encroached land, which they assert is part of the Tammidikunta lake area.
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), along with the municipal body, town planning, irrigation, and revenue departments, have been actively removing encroachments from the buffer zones of the lake. According to the authorities, the N-Convention Centre was identified as one of the unauthorized structures within this zone.
Akkineni may take legal action
In response to the demolition, Nagarjuna Akkineni announced his intent to take legal action against what he perceives as "wrong actions" by the authorities. He expressed his distress in a post on social media platform X, stating, "I am pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of N Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and court cases. I felt it was necessary to issue this statement to protect my reputation and clarify that we have not engaged in any actions that violate the law."
Telangana HC's interim order
Nagarjuna further defended his position by stating that the land in question is patta land, and no part of the tank plan has been encroached upon. He cited the Telangana High Court's interim order, which had halted the demolition following a petition by the management of N-Convention Centre. "The building is constructed within private land, and there is a stay order against any previous illegal notices for demolition," he said.
'Demolition was carried out based on misinformation'
The actor also highlighted that the demolition was carried out based on misinformation, and no prior notice was given before the demolition began. He reiterated his commitment to the legal process, stating, "As a law-abiding citizen, if the court, where the matter is pending, had decided against me, I would have carried out the demolition myself."
Nagarjuna made it clear that he wanted to correct any public misconceptions regarding the alleged wrongful constructions or encroachments by the N-Convention Centre. He emphasized that appropriate legal relief would be sought in response to the actions taken by the authorities.
Buffer zones for Tammidikunta lake
According to HYDRAA, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) issued a notification in 2014 describing the buffer zones for Tammidikunta lake. N-Convention Centre had approached the High Court following this notification. The final notification was issued in 2016.
HYDRAA also stated that due to encroachments in and around Tammidikunta lake and its connecting drains, the Madhapur area has been experiencing water-logging issues.
N-Convention Centre, as mentioned on its website, is managed by N3 Enterprises and is jointly owned by Nagarjuna Akkineni and Nalla Preetham.
