Bhopal: United Malyalee Association to Organise Onam 2024 Celebrations

The United Malyalee Association (UMA) Bhopal has invited the vibrant Bhopal community to join them for a grand celebration of Onam 2024. This much-anticipated event will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 6 PM at the S.N. Mission Hall, Subhash Nagar, Bhopal. Since its establishment in 1984, UMA has been dedicated to serving the community with compassion and commitment.

Over the decades, UMA has consistently provided essential support, including medical aid, financial assistance, blood donation drives, and more. Their mission has always been to uplift the less fortunate and support those in need.

OD Joseph, President of UMA, shared, “Onam festival is an opportunity for us to celebrate our rich cultural heritage and the spirit of togetherness. As we host this year’s festivities, we are reminded of the resilience and unity of our community. We are honored to continue our engagement with our fellow Malaylees and look forward to sharing this special occasion with everyone.”

Vibrant array of cultural performances

Giving details of planned celebrations, Joseph said, “The Onam Celebrations 2024 will showcase a vibrant array of cultural performances, including traditional and contemporary dances by Kalanjali, Bhopal, captivating classical arts by Prathibhalaya Arts Academy, and dynamic performances by Natyashri. Attendees can look forward to an evening filled with song performances, the traditional Thiruvathira dance, a skit by UMA members, and a dramatic reenactment of the Onam legend featuring King Mahabali”.

Commitment to community service

UMA’s commitment to community service extends beyond cultural events. UMA actively organizes festivals, competitions, and sports meets, and run initiatives such as food packet distribution in hospitals, a library, and free medical and blood donation camps. Their collaborative efforts with government bodies and involvement with Malayalee organisations highlight their dedication to addressing the common challenges faced by the community members.
