In the Haryana assembly elections-2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidate for the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi assembly seat: Manju Hooda. While giving a ticket to a candidate is standard in elections, the decision to field a candidate in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi has garnered significant attention.
This constituency is the stronghold of veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, making this move a direct challenge. The stage is set for a high-stakes electoral battle between the two in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, located in Rohtak district.
The Garhi Sampla-Kiloi assembly seat is widely regarded as Bhupinder Singh Hooda's political base. He has been consistently winning the MLA election from this constituency since 2000. On the other hand, Manju Hooda has boldly declared that if Bhupinder Singh Hooda is considered the "son" of the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi region, she is the "daughter-in-law" of the same area.
In an attempt to secure its position in Haryana and confront the Congress in its stronghold, the BJP released its first list of 67 candidates, including the surprise nomination of Manju Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. The party's decision is seen as a strategic move to corner Bhupinder Singh Hooda on his home turf.
Manju Hooda's nomination has sparked widespread discussion in political circles. This development has raised questions about who she is and why the BJP has chosen to back her. Manju Hooda, who came into the spotlight two years ago, was elected chairperson of the District Panchayat in Rohtak as an independent candidate in 2022.
Subsequently, she joined the BJP, expressing confidence in the party's ideology and leadership. Now, the BJP has chosen her to contest against Bhupinder Singh Hooda, transforming the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi election into a "son versus daughter-in-law" battle.
Controversies and Background: A Complex Political Persona
Manju Hooda's background has not been without controversy. She is married to Rajesh Hooda, and before her marriage, she was known as Manju Yadav. Her family has deep roots in Haryana; her father, Pradeep Yadav, served as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state. In contrast, her husband, Rajesh Hooda, has a more controversial past, having been listed as a gangster and history-sheeter. Born in Gurugram, Haryana, Manju's father rose from a humble farmer's background to become a DSP through sheer hard work.
Manju married Rajesh Hooda from Dhamad village in the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi area of Rohtak district, and after her marriage, she took the Hooda surname. When asked by the media about her husband Rajesh Hooda's criminal background, Manju responded that it was a thing of the past. She emphasized that no one can predict a person's actions under certain circumstances, adding that her husband had not been involved in any such activities for the last ten years.
Manju credited her entry into politics to her husband's advice and mentioned that he does not interfere in her political work. Manju highlighted that she has learned from her husband to stand up against wrongdoing.
With her nomination, Manju Hooda has become a key player in the upcoming elections. Her entry has added a new dimension to the electoral contest in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, setting the stage for an intense showdown between two political heavyweights.
