Earthquake tremors felt in Betul, Madhya Pradesh; people rush out of their homes in fear


Earthquake tremors were experienced in Betul, Madhya Pradesh on Monday, September 30. The tremors caused a stir in Bhainsdehi, Betul Bazaar, and Betul around 1:40 PM, prompting residents to rush out their homes as windows and doors began to shake. The tremors lasted approximately 4 to 5 seconds and were also felt in several schools, leading staff to evacuate students.


The earthquake's intensity was recorded at 4.2 on the Richter scale. Residents reported strong shaking, with some mentioning that their sofas moved and they heard a trembling noise. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage.


Betul Superintendent of Police Nischal Jharia felt the tremors during a meeting in the control room. He said that the table shook unexpectedly. Collector Narendra Suryavanshi confirmed the reports of ground tremors.


Epicentre of the earthquake is said to be Amravati


In addition to Betul, tremors were also felt in Achalpur Chikhalda Anjan village in the Amravati district of Maharashtra. The epicentre of the earthquake is said to be Amravati district of Maharashtra. Amravati district is adjacent to Betul district. Although there has been no loss of life, houses have developed cracks in many places. Goods kept in shops have also fallen down. At present, the district administration is busy gathering information.


Earlier in June, Khandwa experienced tremors with an intensity of 3.6 on the Richter scale, causing residents in several areas to flee their homes in fear. Other cities, including Singrauli, Indore, Jabalpur, and Tikamgarh, have also reported similar seismic activity in the past.
