J&K Assembly Election 2024: Voting for the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election 2024 has started today, September 18. Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. A total of 23.27 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in this election. In the first phase, voting is being held on 24 seats, a total average of 26.72% was recorded till 11 am.
More than 35 thousand displaced Kashmiri Pandits, who are living in different states of the country, can also participate in this election. 24 special booths have been set up in Delhi for them, so that they can easily cast their votes.
Assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years and this time the elections are being held after the controversial delimitation process, in which 47 assembly seats have been set up for Kashmir and 43 for Jammu. In the first phase, voting is being held on 24 out of a total of 90 seats, in which about 23 lakh people will vote.
After casting his vote, Congress candidate from Banihal assembly seat Vikar Rasool Wani said, "All the work here has been done by the Congress party. You will not find any work of National Conference and PDP in Banihal assembly constituency, Congress party has worked and only Congress party will work here. The biggest issue is employment."
BJP candidate from Kishtwar Shagun Parihar said, "I am getting love and blessings from the people. I am sure that the people of Kishtwar will bless their daughter."
Voting in districts of Jammu and Kashmir
Of the 24 seats on which voting is being held today, eight seats are in Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts of Jammu. At the same time, voting is also being held on 16 seats in four districts of Kashmir, Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam. Long queues of voters are seen at the polling stations. Tight security arrangements have been made so that the elections can be conducted peacefully and fairly.
More than 14 thousand election personnel deployed
According to the Election Commission, 302 urban and 2,974 rural polling stations have been set up for the first phase. Four employees, including a chief officer, have been deployed at each polling station. In total, more than 14,000 polling personnel have been deployed in this phase. A large number of security forces have been deployed to maintain a peaceful election environment.
Many big parties in the electoral fray
The main contest in this election is between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance and the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Apart from this, Engineer Rashid's Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and Jamaat-e-Islami have also formed an alliance at the last moment, but their candidates are contesting independently. All the parties have campaigned vigorously to woo voters.
