J&K Encounter: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning. It is reported that three terrorists are hiding in a village here, including a top terrorist commander.
The security forces had received intelligence input about the movement of terrorists in the area on Saturday evening. After this, the police and security forces started a search operation by cordoning off. the area. During this, seeing themselves surrounded, the terrorists started firing. At present, the operation is going on.
Intermittent firing is taking place from both sides
According to media reports, police and army personnel are conducting a joint operation in Pathantar area near Gursai Top in Mendhar sub-division. A senior army officer said that when the search team reached close to the hideout of the terrorists, the hidden attackers opened fire on them, after which the encounter started. At present, intermittent firing is taking place from both sides, and additional security forces have been sent to the spot.
First phase of voting on 18 Sep
A day before this encounter in Poonch district, security forces had killed three terrorists in an overnight operation in Baramulla district. Security forces say that security has been tightened to prevent terrorists from creating any kind of disturbance before the elections. Police and army are on full alert so that the designs of terrorists can be foiled. The first phase of voting for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held on 18 September.
