Kolkata RG Kar Medical College Case: Junior doctors protesting against the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal have announced their decision to leave the protest site. They are considering a partial return to work, prioritizing essential services, from Saturday.
The West Bengal Junior Doctors Front has planned a march to the CBI office on Friday to urge for a swift conclusion to the investigation. Front spokesperson Dr. Aqib Ashraf shared with the media, "We will leave the protest site tomorrow (Friday)" and proceed to the CGO Complex, where the CBI office is located.
Aqib said, "Now the movement needs to be taken forward in a new way." He clarified that while they are resuming some essential services, outpatient departments (OPD) and cold operating theaters will remain closed. This decision stems from ongoing safety concerns in hospitals, particularly for female doctors. The junior doctors are calling on the government to address their demands urgently.
Despite some of their requests being met, Adeeb Ashraf noted that "many demands are still unfulfilled." Tomorrow marks the 42nd day of their protest.
'We are giving one week's time to Govt'
Junior doctors said that they will join duty from Saturday, September 21. However, their strike will continue partially. The doctors said that our fight for justice is not over. We are giving one week's time to the Bengal government. If all our demands are not met during this time, the strike will start again.
Sandeep Ghosh's registration revoked
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Medical Council has canceled the registration of Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Hospital. An explanation was sought from Sandeep earlier, but the council took this step when no explanation was received even after more than 13 days.
