Madhya Pradesh's Basali Village: This is How Burhanpur's Hidden Gem Is Developing as a Rising Tourism Destination

The picturesque village of Basali, located in the Burhanpur block, is becoming a rising star in Madhya Pradesh's tourism scene. Nestled in the heart of nature, Basali boasts a breathtaking waterfall that has become an irresistible attraction for visitors. Known as the "Basali Waterfall," this natural marvel draws tourists with its captivating beauty, enhanced by the lush greenery brought on by the monsoon rains.

Recognizing the growing popularity of Basali Waterfall, the District Panchayat of Burhanpur has initiated a comprehensive development plan under the Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana, a government scheme focused on the upliftment of tribal-dominated villages. The project, backed by a budget of Rs 60 lakh, aims to improve access to the waterfall and boost tourism in the region, while also providing new opportunities for the local community.

The Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana, a central government initiative, is designed to support the development of villages with significant tribal populations. Through this scheme, various development works are being undertaken in Burhanpur district to enhance rural tourism and improve the standard of living for local residents.

Transforming Basali into a well-facilitated tourist destination

In the case of Basali, the initiative is not only about making the village more accessible to tourists but also about integrating the local community into the tourism economy. The project is set to transform Basali into a well-facilitated tourist destination while promoting the unique cultural and natural heritage of the region.

Four residential cottages will be constructed

To make the area more tourist-friendly, four residential cottages are being constructed near the Basali Waterfall to provide comfortable accommodation for visitors. These cottages will offer a serene environment where tourists can relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the region.

Local women will run canteen

In addition to the cottages, significant improvements are being made to the access road leading to the waterfall, ensuring that visitors can reach the site with ease. A canteen is also in the works, where tourists can enjoy food and beverages during their visit. The canteen will be run by local women, contributing to their financial independence and creating sustainable employment opportunities.

A trekking route is being developed

For those seeking adventure, a trekking route is being developed in the hilly terrain around the waterfall. This trekking path will allow tourists to explore the surrounding forest, offering a closer connection with nature and a chance to experience the biodiversity of the region. These developments aim to position Basali as an attractive picnic spot for families, nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts alike.

Empowering Local Women: Ajeevika Mission’s Role

One of the most significant aspects of the Basali tourism development plan is its focus on empowering local women through employment and skill development. Under the Ajeevika Mission, women from local self-help groups (SHGs) are being trained to manage the canteen and serve as tourist guides for visitors.

This initiative is not just about providing employment—it’s about making the women self-reliant. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. With these development initiatives in place, Basali is poised to become a prominent tourist destination in Burhanpur district. Through its natural beauty, welcoming community, and growing infrastructure, Basali is set to shine as a new tourist hotspot in the state.
