Wednesday saw a flurry of political activity in Gwalior as both the local MP and MLA celebrated their birthdays on the same day.
Preparations for BJP MP Bharat Singh Kushwaha and Congress MLA Satish Sikarwar's birthdays had been underway for weeks. However, the celebrations for MP Bharat Singh were postponed due to the demise of the Chief Minister's father. Bharat Singh, adhering to protocol and out of respect, traveled to Ujjain for the funeral, turning his birthday observance into a subdued affair.
In contrast, MLA Satish Sikarwar's birthday celebration went ahead with great enthusiasm. The event attracted thousands of Congress supporters, as well as members from other political parties. The large turnout underscored Satish's strong grassroots connection, despite his role in opposition politics.
Satish, who secured a second consecutive term as MLA from Gwalior East by defeating prominent leaders like Maya Singh and Munna Lal Goyal, continues to be a significant figure in local politics.
Amidst the Congress party's struggles in the Gwalior Chambal region, leaders like Satish Sikarwar are pivotal in reinforcing the party's base. Although Satish was considered a candidate for the Gwalior seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, he chose to support his younger brother Neetu Sikarwar, who contested the Morena seat—a traditionally weaker area for Congress.
In Gwalior, Praveen Pathak of Congress gave a tough fight to BJP candidate Bharat Singh Kushwaha. But Kushwaha emerged victorious. However, political insiders believe that Satish's presence could have altered the election outcome.
