MP: New railway line will be laid between Indore-Manmad; will cover 6 districts of Maharashtra and MP; how state will benefit from it?


The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday approved a new railway line project costing about Rs 18 thousand 36 crores under the Ministry of Railways. This new railway line proposed between Indore and Manmad will provide direct connectivity.


This project is the result of PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity. 


The project will cover 6 districts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, which will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 309 km. 


Connect commercial hubs Mumbai & Indore through the shortest rail route


The approved project apart from connecting commercial hubs Mumbai & Indore through the shortest rail route, will also connect the unconnected areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh passing through 2 Districts of Maharashtra and 4 Districts of Madhya Pradesh.


The total cost of project is Rs 18,036 crore and will be completed by 2028-29. The project will also generate direct employment for about 102  lakh man-days during construction.


The people of Barwani have been raising their voice for Khargone-Barwani railway line since independence. Due to the absence of railway line in both the districts, the people of the region have been continuously demanding it.


Local people celebrate


There was a continuous demand for Indore-Manmad railway line for the quite sometime. Today, as soon as the news of approval of Indore-Manmad railway line reached the area, people looked very excited. During this, BJP workers burst firecrackers and distributed sweets. The workers looked very happy. Khargone Barwani MP Gajendra Patel released a video and thanked PM Modi, while also calling it a big gift for the region.

30 new stations will also be built with the project, which will provide better connectivity to Barwani, an aspiring district of MP. The new railway line project will directly benefit about one thousand villages and about 30 lakh population. 


CM Dr. Mohan Yadav has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval of this new railway line project which will give further impetus to the development of Madhya Pradesh.


Along with boost to tourism, Pithampur will get direct connectivity to ports


The project will promote tourism in the region by providing a short route connecting the western south-western part of the country to central India. This will increase the number of tourists at various tourist and religious places in Ujjain-Indore region including Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. 


The project will provide direct connectivity to Pithampur auto cluster (90 large units and 700 small and medium industries) with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority’s (JNPA's) Gateway Port and other state ports. 


The project will also provide direct connectivity to millet producing districts of Madhya Pradesh and onion producing districts of Maharashtra, which will facilitate its distribution in the northern and southern parts of the country.


26 million tonnes of additional freight will be carried per annum


It is an essential route for transportation of agricultural products, fertilizers, containers, iron ore, steel, cement, POL. The capacity enhancement work will result in additional freight traffic of about 26 MTPA (million tonnes per annum). 


Railways are an environment friendly and energy efficient mode of transport, which will help in achieving climate goals and reducing the country's logistics cost, reducing oil imports (18 crore litres) and reducing carbon dioxide emissions (138 crore kg) which is equivalent to planting 5.5 crore trees.
