PM Modi leaves for US tour, will meet leaders of Quad countries, see details

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a three-day visit to the United States on Saturday, September 21. This visit marks an important milestone in further enhancing bilateral relations between India and the U.S., with an agenda that includes high-profile meetings and participation in the Quad Leaders Summit. The trip is expected to deepen cooperation between the two nations, while addressing crucial global and regional issues. Additionally, Modi will engage with the Indian community and business leaders to promote collaboration in emerging technologies.

Quad Leaders Summit

PM Modi will attend the Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, the hometown of U.S. President Joe Biden. The Quad—comprising India, the United States, Australia, and Japan—has emerged as a key forum for addressing geopolitical and regional challenges. Leaders from all four countries are expected to participate in discussions that will focus on the Indo-Pacific region, as well as other pressing global issues. Key topics for this summit include strategies for regional stability, economic cooperation, and a collective approach to overcoming international challenges.

The Indo-Pacific region is of particular importance to all Quad members due to its strategic economic and geopolitical significance. Leaders are expected to discuss ways to promote peace, security, and prosperity in the region. Additionally, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, rising tensions in West Asia, and other pressing global issues will be key topics of discussion during this high-stakes summit.

High-Level Bilateral Meetings

Following the Quad Summit, Prime Minister Modi is set to hold several high-level bilateral meetings with his counterparts. Notably, he will meet U.S. President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. These discussions will focus on strengthening existing partnerships, with a particular emphasis on the Global Strategic Partnership between India and the U.S.

The meeting between Modi and Biden is especially anticipated due to the deepening ties between India and the U.S. Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including economic cooperation, defense collaboration, and shared strategies for addressing global challenges such as climate change, healthcare, and technological advancements. Key agreements related to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) are likely to be signed, marking another step forward in economic relations between the two countries.

Engagement with the Indian Diaspora

A key highlight of Prime Minister Modi’s visit will be his interaction with the Indian community in New York on September 22. Modi has made it a tradition to meet with the Indian diaspora during his international trips, recognizing the significant contributions of Indians abroad to both their host countries and India. His address is expected to touch on the achievements of the Indian diaspora, their challenges, and their role in strengthening ties between India and the U.S.

The Prime Minister's outreach to the Indian community often serves as a bridge for fostering people-to-people ties, enhancing cultural diplomacy, and strengthening India’s global image. The diaspora’s influence is also pivotal in fostering business, educational, and technological collaborations between the two countries.

Collaboration with U.S. Business Leaders

In addition to diplomatic engagements, Prime Minister Modi will meet with CEOs of leading American companies. These meetings are expected to pave the way for new collaborations in cutting-edge sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, biotechnology, and renewable energy. Modi’s government has prioritized technological advancement, and these discussions could further India’s ambitions to become a global hub for innovation.

By engaging directly with key business leaders, Modi aims to foster investments in critical areas that will drive India’s economic growth and technological development. The focus on AI, quantum computing, and biotechnology reflects India’s desire to lead in emerging technologies that are reshaping the global economy.

Prime Minister’s Address at the 'Future Summit'

On the final day of his visit, Prime Minister Modi will address the 'Future Summit' in New York, an event organized at the United Nations General Assembly. The summit’s theme, 'Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,' resonates with India’s role as a leader in global problem-solving and cooperation.

Key Issues at the Quad Summit

The Quad Leaders Summit is expected to focus on several critical issues facing the global community. Among the top agenda items are the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, escalating tensions in West Asia, and challenges related to security and development in the Indo-Pacific region.

A special initiative titled 'Cancer Moonshot' will also be launched during the summit, aiming to promote international cooperation in cancer research, prevention, and treatment.

Strengthening India-US Relations

PM Modi’s visit to the U.S. comes at a time when India-U.S. relations are on an upward trajectory. The meeting between Modi and Biden is expected to result in the signing of key agreements that will not only strengthen the economic ties between the two countries but also enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, technology, and healthcare.
