Ayodhya Deepotsav: On the eve of Diwali, Ayodhya basked in a mesmerizing glow as 28 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) illuminated the 55 ghats along the sacred Saryu River. This breathtaking display set a new world record, which was formally acknowledged by the Guinness World Records team.
This year's event surpassed the previous year’s record of 22 lakh diyas, adding a spectacular touch to the grand festivities. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the celebrations, also visiting the Ram Mandir, which has become a focal point for the revived grandeur of Diwali in Ayodhya.
A Grand Procession: Lord Ram’s Arrival and the Royal Reception
In a recreation of the Ramayana’s triumphant return, actors portraying Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman arrived in a ceremonial Pushpak Vimana. CM Yogi Adityanath, joined by throngs of devotees, welcomed them as they descended and boarded a chariot for a royal procession. In a symbolic act of devotion, CM Yogi himself pulled the “Ram Rath” to Ramkatha Park, where he conducted a heartfelt aarti and performed the Raj Tilak of Lord Ram, formally honoring his arrival.
Artists dressed in traditional attire danced in jubilation, portraying the joy that accompanies Ram’s return, a scene that was enacted across various corners of the city to capture Ayodhya’s spirit and cultural heritage.
A City-Wide Tribute to the Ramayana
The celebrations brought the Ramayana to life with colorful tableaus depicting scenes from Lord Ram’s life journey. Streets were transformed into displays of devotion as intricately designed floats depicting key events of the Ramayana captivated the audience.
1600 Priests Conduct the Saryu Aarti
To honor the occasion, 1600 priests assembled along the Saryu Ghats, performing the grand Saryu Aarti. The powerful aarti resonated with the crowd, elevating the spirit of Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya.
“The diyas lit here are not just lamps; they represent the unwavering belief of Sanatan Dharma,” CM Yogi said, reinforcing Ayodhya’s role as a beacon of cultural pride. “Sanatan Dharma has always embraced humanity and peace, never causing harm. Those who act against the path of humanity will meet a doomed fate, much like the mafias in UP,” he added.
In a poignant gesture of reverence, CM Yogi joined the chariot procession, personally pulling the Ram Rath. The act was symbolic of the state’s commitment to preserving and honoring the legacy of Lord Ram.
Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also spoke at the event, reflecting on Ayodhya’s historical importance and the long-awaited construction of the Ram temple.
The grand celebration of Deepotsav, the illuminating diyas, and the heartfelt tribute to Lord Ram collectively highlighted Ayodhya’s profound significance in India’s cultural heritage, fostering a renewed sense of unity and reverence among the citizens. As Ayodhya shines brighter than ever, it continues to symbolize the timeless values of Sanatan Dharma and the resilience of Indian tradition, promising to remain a source of spiritual inspiration for generations to come.
