Indian industry veteran and former chairman of Tata Sons Ratan Tata was given a final farewell with state honors on Thursday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Reliance Group Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and many other eminent personalities paid tribute to him at Nariman Point. A day of mourning has been declared in Maharashtra on Thursday in honor of Ratan Tata and on this occasion the national flag will fly at half-mast in all government offices in Maharashtra.
Many personalities from politics, sports and business, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Mukesh Ambani and Kumar Mangalam Birla, paid tribute to Tata. Amitabh Bachchan wrote, 'An era has ended.'
The Maharashtra Cabinet on Thursday demanded Bharat Ratna for Ratan Tata. The cabinet has passed the proposal and sent it to the central government. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his cabinet ministers paid tribute to Ratan Tata. The cabinet said that the country has lost a great social worker, visionary and patriotic leader.
Last rites performed as per Hindu rituals
The mortal remains of Padma Vibhushan industrialist Ratan Tata were kept at the National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) at Nariman Point from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday. Where thousands of people gathered to pay their last respects to him. After this, the last journey of former Tata Sons chairman industrialist Ratan Tata reached Worli crematorium. After 45 minutes of final prayers, he was given state honours.
Industrialist Ratan Tata's trusted aide Shantanu Naidu came out of Mumbai's Worli crematorium at around 6.05 pm after paying his last respects to Ratan Tata.
