Maharashtra Assembly Elections-2024: Aaditya Thackeray Vs. Milind Deora: Shiv Sena Shinde faction has released its second list for the Maharashtra assembly elections. In this, Shiv Sena Shinde faction has declared Milind Deora as the candidate against Shiv Sena Uddhav faction candidate Aaditya Thackeray from Worli. In this contest, the veteran leaders of both the factions will face each other. With this decision of Shiv Sena, the election atmosphere on Worli seat has heated up. With this move, the Worli seat has turned into a high-voltage contest.
Milind Deora is currently Shiv Sena's Rajya Sabha member and a three-time MP from South Mumbai. During the Lok Sabha elections, Deora was given the task of handling the high-profile Worli constituency for the party.
Deora's entry can change the equation
Shiv Sena candidate Milind Deora expressed his commitment towards Worli and expressed gratitude to the party for this decision. After declaring Deora as the candidate of the Mahayuti alliance, it is clear that the electoral battle on this seat has become even more exciting. Deora's nomination was announced on the same day when Aaditya Thackeray also presented his claim. Worli seat is already considered to be under Thackeray's influence, but this time the equation can change with Deora's entry.
The contest on the Worli seat became interesting
During the last Lok Sabha elections, Shiv Sena had handed over the responsibility of Worli seat to Deora, which is considered the stronghold of the Thackeray family. Although Aditya Thackeray had won in the last elections, but in the recent assembly elections, Aditya Thackeray was ahead by only 6500 votes. With Deora entering the fray, the electoral journey is not going to be easy for Aditya Thackeray this time. It will be interesting to see who will win in this contest.
Deora has handled many important responsibilities
Milind Deora, who has been a Rajya Sabha member and three-time MP from South Mumbai, is an experienced leader. Deora has also held ministerial positions in the ministries of Communications, Information Technology and Shipping. Deora, who belongs to Rajasthan, has played many important responsibilities in his political career. Milind Deora's father Murali Deora also held an important position in the Congress party and had been the Mayor of Mumbai.
Seat sharing of Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi
The Mahayuti alliance has announced the names of 231 candidates for the 288 assembly seats of Maharashtra. The Mahayuti includes BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). The BJP has so far announced 121 candidates in two lists, while the Shiv Sena Shinde faction has announced 65 and the NCP Ajit faction has announced 45 candidates. The Mahavikas Aghadi includes Shiv Sena Uddhav faction, NCP Sharad faction and Congress, which have so far announced candidates for 260 seats. Along with this, Congress has also announced 14 names in its fourth list.
First election of Shinde and Uddhav faction
The term of the current Maharashtra Legislative Assembly ends on 26 November 2024, and this election is the first election under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shinde rebelled against the Uddhav Thackeray government in June 2022 and took oath as the Chief Minister with the support of the BJP. In this election, the Mahayuti will have to deal with the challenge of anti-incumbency wave and division of votes. This challenge holds special significance for both the factions.
Elections will be held in Maharashtra in a single phase on November 20 and its results will be declared on November 23.
