MUDA Land Scam: In a notable move, BN Parvathi, wife of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has offered to return the controversial plots of land that are at the center of corruption allegations against her and her family. In a statement, Parvathi asserted that she was acting out of a sense of duty and moral obligation. "I am obeying the call of my conscience," she stated. Along with the offer to return the land, she also demanded a thorough investigation into all allegations involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
This development comes on the same day the Enforcement Directorate (ED) lodged a money laundering case against Siddaramaiah. The case has added further scrutiny to the family's involvement in alleged illegalities concerning land allotment by MUDA.
The Land in Question
In her letter addressed to MUDA, Parvathi offered to return 14 plots that had been allocated to her in Mysuru's Vijayanagar Phase 3 and 4 areas. These plots were reportedly given to her as compensation for the use of 3.16 acres of land in Kesare Village.
"I wish to surrender and return the compensatory plots by cancelling the deeds of the 14 plots executed in my favor by the Mysore Urban Development Authority," Parvathi wrote. She further noted that she would hand over physical possession of the plots back to MUDA and urged the authority to take swift action to formalize this process.
'Well wishers encouraged us to fight this injustice'
Parvathi acknowledged that some might question her timing in making this decision. She emphasized that she had considered returning the land as soon as the accusations first emerged. However, she explained that political motivations behind the allegations led some of her well-wishers to advise her against taking such a step. "They encouraged us to fight this injustice and not give in to political schemes," she said. As a result, she initially refrained from returning the plots.
'My husband has upheld a strict code of ethics'
In her statement, Parvathi praised her husband's integrity, pointing out that Siddaramaiah has maintained a spotless record throughout his 40-year political career. "He has upheld a strict code of ethics and has never been tainted by any kind of blemish," she remarked. She also highlighted that no material possession, be it a house or a plot of land, is more important to her than her husband’s dignity and peace of mind.
Notably, Parvathi clarified that she had not consulted her husband, son, or other family members before making this decision. Her statement underscored her commitment to acting independently in this matter.
'Do not drag women of political families into controversies'
In a broader appeal, Parvathi called on political leaders and the media to refrain from dragging women of political families into controversies for the sake of scoring political points. "Do not harm their dignity and honor by involving them in political disputes," she urged.
Her plea came amid growing media attention and political controversy surrounding the allegations against the Siddaramaiah family. The current case appears to be part of a larger political battle, with multiple figures involved.
CM said - I respect wife's decision
Amid his wife's decision to return the land, CM Siddaramaiah wrote on social media, the people of the state also know that the opposition parties made false complaints to create political hatred against me and dragged my family into controversy.
My stand was to fight without bowing down to this injustice. But my wife, who is upset with the political conspiracy going on against me, has decided to return these plots. She is a victim of hate politics against me and is suffering mental torture. I regret this. However, I respect my wife's decision to return the plot.
