National Unity Day: PM Modi Celebrates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas with Tributes to Sardar Patel, Launches New Initiatives in Gujarat


On the auspicious occasion of Diwali and Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ekta Nagar in Gujarat to celebrate National Unity Day, observed annually on October 31 to honor the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Arriving early at Kevadia, PM Modi paid his respects to the Iron Man of India by placing a floral tribute at the foot of the towering Statue of Unity at 7:15 am. Following this, he took the salute during the Unity Day parade, which featured police and armed forces contingents from 16 different states.


Administered the Unity Oath


During the National Unity Day ceremony, PM Modi led attendees in an oath of unity, pledging to work tirelessly for the security and unity of the nation. He praised Sardar Patel's visionary leadership in uniting India and expressed his commitment to spreading this spirit of unity among citizens. Modi remarked that this pledge is a small tribute to Sardar Patel’s immense contributions, reinforcing the sense of national unity among the people.


Daring motorcycle stunts by the BSF and CRPF 


The Unity Day parade included impressive participation from police contingents representing nine states, one union territory, and several central armed police forces. The parade also featured units from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and a lively marching band. A standout event in the parade was the daring motorcycle stunts by the BSF and CRPF, performed by both male and female officers, while school children presented a pipe band show.


IAF's 'Surya Kiran' Flypast


The Indian Air Force delivered a spectacular aerial display, with their renowned 'Surya Kiran' team executing skillful stunts and maneuvers over the crowd. Fighter jets soared and dived, symbolizing the commitment of the Air Force to protect national unity, and both the Indian Air Force and Navy jets added to the impressive flypast.




Inauguration of Development Projects Worth Rs 280 Crore


On this occasion, PM Modi inaugurated several development projects in Ekta Nagar, unveiling new initiatives worth approximately Rs 280 crore. These projects are expected to bolster tourism in the region and bring numerous benefits to the local community. The new developments include facilities and attractions designed to enhance visitors' experience, further elevating the profile of the Statue of Unity as a global landmark.


The Statue of Unity: World’s Tallest Statue


The Statue of Unity, standing at 182 meters, remains the tallest statue in the world and symbolizes India’s unity. This monumental statue of Sardar Patel was completed in 2018, five years after construction began in 2013. PM Modi, who championed the statue's construction while serving as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, dedicated it to Patel on his 143rd birth anniversary. Over 109 tonnes of iron were used in its construction, contributed by farmers from across India, showcasing the spirit of unity in its creation.


PM's Emphasis on Public Participation


In his address on Wednesday to 653 young officers of the Indian Civil Services, PM Modi underscored the importance of public participation, or Jan Bhagidari, in governance. He urged the officers to focus on improving the 'Ease of Living' for Indian citizens and emphasized the role of youth in shaping India’s path toward becoming a developed nation. The officers engaged in discussions about the 'Roadmap for Developed India,' highlighting the government’s vision for progressive governance.



Kevadia’s New Step Towards Green Energy


A significant step towards sustainable development, PM Modi inaugurated a four-megawatt solar power project in Kevadia, with a budget of Rs 23.26 crore. This solar initiative aims to propel Kevadia toward green energy adoption, enhancing its reputation as a model region not only in tourism but also in sustainable energy.


New Tourist Facilities and Pathways


To further enhance tourism, PM Modi unveiled a new pathway and road leading from the bay to a scenic viewpoint. Additionally, 24 thematic artworks have been installed in public spaces around Kevadia, reflecting themes of water, nature, and unity. These installations and new infrastructure aim to make Kevadia an even more attractive and immersive experience for visitors, promoting it as a prime destination for tourism.
