Shardiya Navratri 2024: Shardiya Navratri commenced today, October 3rd, and devotees are flocking to the temples of Mata Durga to seek darshan on this auspicious first day. Many renowned and historic temples across the country are celebrated for their representations of Mata Durga, and the atmosphere during Navratri is particularly vibrant in these sacred spaces.

Today, we will explore the Maa Kankali Temple in Madhya Pradesh, a site that attracts a significant number of visitors for darshan. This temple not only offers a grand experience for devotees but also holds a unique mystery that may not be widely known. Let’s delve into the intriguing aspects of this temple.

Temple is situated about 22 km from Bhopal

The Maa Kankali Temple, located in Gudawal village within the Bhojpur assembly constituency of Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, is situated about 22 kilometers from Bhopal. This magnificent temple, which is over 400 years old, is known for the many miracles associated with it.

According to local legend, in the 18th century, a resident named Har Lal Meda had a dream in which the goddess instructed him to excavate and retrieve her idol. Following this divine command, he dug at the designated spot and discovered the idol of Maa Kankali, which has remained in its original location ever since.

Goddess's neck becomes straigh for a brief moment

The temple attracts a large number of visitors, especially during Navratri, when the atmosphere is particularly unique and mysterious. Notably, the idol of Maa Kankali is positioned with its neck bent at a 45-degree angle. Believers hold that during the Saptami and Ashtami days of Sharadiya Navratri, the goddess's neck straightens for a brief moment.

Devotees who witness this transformation believe that all their sorrows and troubles will be alleviated. While the temple sees visitors throughout the year, the crowds swell during Navratri, with many devotees hoping for the opportunity to witness the mother with her neck straightened.
