Indian cricket team has defeated Australia in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar series.
India scored 150 runs in the first innings of the match played in Perth. In response, Australia could score only 104 runs.
India declared the second innings after scoring 487 runs. After this, Australia, chasing the target of 534 runs, could score only 238 runs. India won by 295 runs.
In the second innings, captain Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj took three wickets each for India. Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy supported them well.
Travis Head played the highest innings of 89 runs for Australia. Also, Mitchell Marsh scored 47 runs.
For India, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161, Virat Kohli scored 100 (not out) and KL Rahul scored 77 runs in the second innings.
Before this Test, Australia had won all the 4 Tests played at Optus Stadium in Perth and in all these matches, Australia had batted first. But, this time India batted first here and defeated Australia. Earlier matches were played at Perth's WACA Stadium. However, from 2018 matches started being played at Optus Stadium
