By-Election Dates Rescheduled in UP, Punjab, Kerala; Check New Voting Dates

The date for assembly by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Kerala has been changed. The Election Commission announced on Monday that voting will now take place on November 20, instead of November 13, for 14 assembly seats across the three states. The results are expected to be announced on November 23.

Voting will occur on November 20 for 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, 4 in Punjab, and 1 in Kerala. The date change was made at the request of the BJP, Congress, RLD, and BSP.

These parties expressed concerns that the original voting date coincided with Kartik Purnima and Guru Nanak Devji's Prakash Parv on November 15, as well as the Kalpathi Rastholsevam celebrations in Kerala from November 13 to 15, which could have impacted voter turnout.

Additionally, elections are set to be held on 288 seats of the Maharashtra Assembly on November 20. By-elections will also take place on the same day for the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra and the Kedarnath assembly seat in Uttarakhand.

The voting date has not been changed for 33 seats in 10 states. That means voting will be held here on November 13 only. On the same day, voting will also be held for 43 seats of Jharkhand Assembly.

On October 15, the Election Commission had announced the dates for by-elections on 48 assembly and 2 Lok Sabha seats in 14 states along with Maharashtra-Jharkhand.
