Parth Upadhyay, a ninth-grade student from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, made a remarkable appearance on Season 16 of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), hosted by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, on 14 November. Parth not only showcased his intellect by winning Rs 25 lakh but also captured hearts with his deep-rooted cultural knowledge, making his episode unforgettable for viewers.
A Young Prodigy on the Hot Seat
Parth impressed the audience and viewers alike as he confidently tackled the challenging questions posed to him on KBC. His knowledge and determination saw him through a series of high-stakes questions, ultimately leading to a substantial win of Rs 25 lakh. Yet, beyond his quiz prowess, Parth brought a unique cultural essence to the show through his reverent and heartfelt recitations.
Honoring Indian Heritage through Recitation
Originally from Banswara district in Rajasthan, Parth is currently studying in Indore. His family has a strong academic background—both his father, Amit, and his mother are practicing lawyers in the High Court. Parth, however, showcased his talents beyond academics by reciting powerful verses from two significant sources of Indian literature: the Ramayana and a poem by renowned poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar.
During the show, Parth captivated everyone when he recited passages from the Sundarkand and Yuddh Kand sections of the Ramayana. In a touching gesture of respect, he removed his shoes before reciting these revered texts in front of Amitabh Bachchan, a gesture that resonated with the audience. The live audience responded with enthusiastic applause, and Bachchan himself expressed admiration for the young contestant’s depth of knowledge and respect for tradition.
Celebrating Dinkar's Legacy
In addition to the Ramayana, Parth delivered a stirring recitation of Dinkar's iconic poem, “Veer Ras Ki Rashmi Rathi,” with impeccable energy and precision. This recitation was particularly significant as Bachchan shares a personal connection with the late poet.
Big-B shared his memories of Dinkar’s visits to their family home
Dinkar was a close friend of Amitabh's father, the legendary poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Reminiscing on this connection, Big-B shared his memories of Dinkar’s visits to their family home and praised Parth’s recitation.
“Dinkar ji and my father were close friends, often spending time together,” Big-B told Parth. “You recited his poem with such remarkable energy! Though Dinkar ji’s voice was deeper, your voice modulation and spirit were outstanding.” His words echoed the respect and pride felt by everyone present, acknowledging Parth’s talent in bringing Dinkar’s verse to life.
The Journey Ends with Wisdom
Parth’s journey on KBC came to an end when he encountered a challenging question about a Gandharva from the Mahabharata. Without any lifelines left, he wisely chose to leave the game, securing Rs 25 lakh, which will be credited to his account once he turns 18. His decision reflected a mature understanding of risk and reward, capping his journey with a thoughtful exit.
A Spotlight on India's Youth Talent
Parth’s appearance on KBC served as a reminder of the intellectual and cultural depth found in India’s younger generation. His blend of traditional knowledge and academic prowess resonated not only with the audience but also highlighted the potential within Indian youth to carry forward the nation's rich cultural legacy. For viewers and those present in the studio, Parth’s journey was not only a demonstration of talent but a celebration of India’s heritage—brought to life by the spirit of a young, passionate student.
