With only days left before the first phase of Jharkhand's elections-2024, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is intensifying his efforts as a key campaigner for the BJP. Speaking at a public rally in Palamu, Mohan Yadav stirred the crowd by introducing a bold claim: he equated Jharkhand's capital, Ranchi, with Pakistan's Karachi.
Mohan Yadav criticized Chief Minister Hemant Soren as well as the Congress party, alleging they have transformed Ranchi to resemble a Pakistani city, invoking a metaphor of "Karachi" to describe the city’s perceived changes under their administration.
Yadav appealed to the attendees by emphasizing the need for BJP leadership to restore what he described as Ranchi’s "former glory." He said, "Electing the BJP in the upcoming state assembly elections is the path toward reclaiming Jharkhand’s cultural identity."
The enthusiastic response from the crowd, Yadav stated, signaled a shift in public sentiment away from the current administration.
Tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee
During his speech, Yadav paid homage to the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose vision led to Jharkhand's formation as a separate state. He expressed gratitude for Vajpayee’s legacy and emphasized his pride in Ranchi as the state's capital, made possible through Vajpayee's leadership. Yadav lamented, however, that Ranchi now resembles "Pakistan" due to what he described as policies of deceit, discrimination, and neglect under Hemant Soren's leadership.
"Appreciate Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who created this new state for us by making Ranchi the capital. It was our good fortune. Sadly, I must say that Ranchi now reminds us of Pakistan, a country associated with lies, deceit, cunningness, and daily humiliation of Hindus," Yadav declared. He accused the Soren administration of diminishing the capital's cultural and religious vibrancy and argued that only a BJP-led government could restore Ranchi’s identity.
Hindu population declined due to influx of migrants
Further intensifying his rhetoric, Yadav pointed fingers at the Soren-led administration and its alliance, attributing demographic shifts in Jharkhand to alleged illegal immigration. He claimed that Bangladeshi migrants have contributed to a decline in the Hindu population while the Muslim population has increased. According to Yadav, the combined forces of Congress and the India Alliance are responsible for these demographic trends.
Yadav highlighted specific figures, alleging that the tribal and Hindu population, once around 44 percent, has dropped to 28 percent. He also stated that the Hindu population alone has declined by seven percent while the Muslim population has seen a four percent increase.
Campaign Strategy for BJP's Vision of Jharkhand
As Jharkhand heads towards its elections, Yadav’s statements indicate BJP’s focus on leveraging nationalist sentiments and concerns over demographic changes to sway voters. With just days left before the polls, this high-profile campaign by Yadav and the BJP seeks to establish a decisive narrative that could influence the election’s outcome.
