On November 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Akola, Maharashtra, as part of his third consecutive assembly election rally in the state. This rally, in support of the Mahayuti alliance (comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP), follows his previous gatherings in Nashik and Dhule on November 8. After Akola, PM Modi was scheduled to continue his campaign with a meeting in Nanded later that afternoon.
A Historic Day and Nation-First Sentiment
During the rally, PM Modi highlighted the significance of November 9, calling it a “historic day” in India’s recent past. He recalled the landmark Supreme Court ruling on the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, which was delivered on this date in 2019. Praising the country’s unity, he remarked on how citizens of all faiths responded with grace, prioritizing the spirit of “nation first.” Modi framed this day as a symbol of India’s shared respect and sensitivity across communities.
Centre’s focus on Maharashtra’s growth: PM
The Prime Minister acknowledged the consistent support Maharashtra has shown to the BJP over the past decade, from 2014 to 2024, underscoring that it is this unwavering trust that fuels his commitment to the state. Highlighting his joy in serving Maharashtra, he mentioned the substantial new developments and projects initiated in the state since his administration’s return to office five months ago. According to Modi, these projects amount to “lakhs and crores” of investment, showcasing the central government’s focus on Maharashtra’s growth.
Cong collected Rs 700 crores from liquor vendors in Karnataka Modi
PM Modi targeted the Congress party, accusing it of using state governments as "ATMs" to support what he called the "royal family of Congress." Citing states like Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka (all of them Congress or Opposition ruled), he argued that these states have become financial support systems for Congress leaders. Modi further alleged that in Karnataka, Congress associates have collected Rs 700 crores from liquor vendors in the name of elections, raising issues of corruption and financial misconduct within opposition-led states.
Upliftment of Cotton Farmers in Akola
Focusing on local issues, Modi addressed the challenges faced by Maharashtra’s cotton farmers, particularly in Akola, known as a major cotton-producing area. He criticized Congress and its allies for neglecting farmers’ interests, asserting that they failed to respect the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and disregarded judicial and national sentiments. Modi claimed that conditions are now changing under the BJP-led government, with efforts underway to ensure that cotton farmers benefit from a strengthened textile industry and agricultural support.
Housing for Maharashtra’s Underprivileged: A Vision for Permanent Homes
Highlighting housing as a key part of his administration’s vision, Modi cited his efforts in building affordable homes. Over the past two terms, his government has constructed four crore houses for economically disadvantaged citizens, and now aims to build an additional three crore homes across the country. He assured the rally attendees that Maharashtra’s poor would greatly benefit from this initiative, promising that it will fulfill the dream of a stable home for countless families across the state.
Modi appealed to supporters to participate actively in this mission. He requested them to identify families still living in kutcha (temporary) houses and provide him with their details, vowing to provide permanent housing for these families. He added that he sees each voter as a “representative of Modi” in this endeavor to improve housing for all.
Free Healthcare for Senior Citizens
The Prime Minister also addressed the healthcare needs of senior citizens. He highlighted his government’s recent initiative to provide free medical treatment for those over the age of 70, fulfilling a campaign promise made earlier.
Modi stated that under the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Collective Efforts, Inclusive Growth), this healthcare scheme aims to provide support for all citizens, regardless of background or socioeconomic status. He assured attendees that they need not worry about their elderly family members, saying, “This son will treat them,” positioning himself as a caretaker for the nation’s senior citizens.
A Call for Maharashtra’s Support and Vision for Growth
As PM Modi’s rally series moves forward in Maharashtra, he emphasized the Mahayuti’s commitment to transforming the state with both local and national support. From farmer welfare to healthcare and housing, Modi presented a vision that intertwines Maharashtra’s progress with his broader national agenda, hoping to garner support from the state’s voters in the upcoming assembly elections on November 20.
