Counting of votes has started on 288 assembly seats of Maharashtra. Postal ballots were counted first. EVMs opened at 8:30 am. The contest is between Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi.
In 288 seat House, Mahayuti is leading on 210, while MVA is ahead on 70 seats.
Initial trends show a huge lead for Mahayuti. CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar are leading. Devendra Fadnavis has fallen behind from Nagpur South-West seat.
Mahayuti includes BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and NCP (Ajit Pawar), while Mahavikas Aghadi includes Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and NCP (Sharad Pawar).
Voting was held on 20 November for 288 seats of Maharashtra Assembly. This time 4% more voting took place as compared to 2019. In 2019, 61.4% votes were cast. This time 65.11% voting took place. Exit polls came on the day voting ended. Out of 11 polls, 6 have predicted the formation of a BJP alliance i.e. Mahayuti government. 4 polls have predicted the formation of a Congress alliance i.e. Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) government and one poll has predicted a hung assembly.
Raj Thackeray's son Amit Thackeray is trailing by 110 votes from Mahim seat. Shiv Sena UBT's Mahesh Sawant is leading.
Nagpur South-West Devendra Fadnavis is trailing.
Mahayuti close to majority
In the initial trends of Maharashtra, Mahayuti has reached close to majority. It is leading on 154 seats, while the Aghadi alliance is ahead on 95 seats.
