Sheopur: Two cubs of African female cheetah Nirvah were found dead and their mutilated bodies were recovered from Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district on Wednesday. A team of forest department staff monitoring the movement of cheetahs got indications through radio telemetry that Nirvah was away from her den, following which they reached the spot for inspection along with veterinarians and found the mutilated bodies of two cubs inside.
After inspecting all the possible places inside the enclosure, they came to the conclusion that there was no evidence of the presence of any more cheetah cubs. There was confusion about how many cubs Nirvah gave birth to.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had earlier informed on social media that Nirvah had given birth to four cubs, but later he removed the post and said that the forest department would soon confirm the exact number of newborns. Nirvah is completely healthy.
The forest department official said, samples of the dead cubs have been collected and sent for examination. The exact cause of their death will be known only after receiving the laboratory report. All other adult cheetahs and cubs are healthy.
