Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi has voiced his opinion on the ongoing controversy involving the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Champions Trophy 2025, set to be hosted by Pakistan.
Recent reports indicate that the BCCI has informed the International Cricket Council (ICC) that Team India will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Notably, the Indian cricket team has not toured Pakistan since 2008, primarily due to political tensions and security concerns.
Afridi has supported the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) opposition to the proposed hybrid model for hosting the Champions Trophy-2025. He took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration with the situation, accusing the BCCI of politicizing cricket.
"By connecting politics with sports, BCCI has put international cricket in crisis. I fully support PCB's stand against the hybrid model," Afridi wrote. He further elaborated on his stance, highlighting Pakistan’s willingness to visit India multiple times despite security challenges.
"Pakistan, despite security concerns, has toured India five times since the 26/11 attacks, including bilateral series. It is now time for the ICC and its board of directors to uphold impartiality and exercise their authority," Afridi emphasized.
His remarks underscore a growing debate over the intersection of politics and cricket, as the cricketing world watches closely to see how the ICC navigates this sensitive issue.
