Bhopal's Jyoti Ratre's Remarkable Feat: Conquers Mount Vinson, highest peak in Antarctica

Bhopal's 55-year-old mountaineer, Jyoti Ratre, has achieved a major milestone by reaching the high camp at 3,780 meters on Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica, which stands at 4,892 meters. Although she had to turn back before the final ascent due to strict safety regulations and adverse conditions, including extreme cold temperatures of -52 degrees Celsius, her endeavor stands as a testament to her courage and determination. Jyoti left for Antarctica from Mumbai on December 14, facing severe cold and strong icy winds throughout her challenging journey.

The highest mountain in Antarctica, Mount Vinson rises 4,892 meters (16,050 feet) above sea level. Mount Vinson is one of the most recently discovered and explored of the Seven Summits, the highest peaks of the world's seven continents.

Jyoti's trek was both physically and mentally demanding

Jyoti's trek to the high camp was both physically and mentally demanding. She covered a distance of 10 kilometers from the base camp to the low camp while pulling a sledge weighing 25 kg and carrying a 15 kg backpack. The journey from the low camp to the high camp proved even more strenuous, as climbers had to ascend with the aid of ropes within a designated time-frame. Climbing a slope of about 50 to 60 degrees, she climbed an elevation of 1,200 meters, battling powerful winds and temperatures plummeting to -40 degrees Celsius.

Besides, Jyoti Ratre has successfully conquered five of the seven summits, including Mount Everest (Asia), Mount Elbrus (Europe), Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Aconcagua (South America), and Mount Kosciuszko (Australia).
