The Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024 (BGT24) is very crucial for both the teams India and Australia. Whichever team manages to win this series will almost confirm its place in the final of the World Test Championship 2025 (WTC25). Both the teams are standing on equal footing in this 5-match Test series.
In the first Test match of the series, the Indian team gave the Kangaroos a taste of defeat on the strength of centuries by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli and deadly bowling by Jasprit Bumrah. In the second match, Australia equalized the score by giving India a crushing defeat by 10 wickets. The third Test match of the series was a draw due to rain. Now the fourth Test of the series has also started.
Australia dominated the first two days
Today was the second day of the fourth Test match which started on the 26th. Both the days proved to be difficult for the Indian team and the Kangaroos completely dominated the Indian team. Australia piled up runs on the scoreboard with their fiery batting on the first day. The biggest contribution in this was explosive batsman Steve Smith.
Playing at a strike rate of above 70, he scored 140 runs in 197 balls. Apart from Smith, Australia scored 474 runs in their first innings thanks to the half-centuries of Sam Constas, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, who are debuting in the team in this Test. Once again, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, no bowler from India could perform well. Bumrah took the maximum 4 wickets in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets.
India's batting fell apart again
After bowling out Australia on the second day of the Test, the Indian team, which came out to bat, had a disappointing start. In the second over itself, Australian captain Pat Cummins sent Indian captain Rohit Sharma to the pavilion on a score of just 3 runs. After this, India lost its second wicket also at 51 runs. But Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal handled the innings.
Yashasvi scored 82 runs but he was run out. After Yashasvi, Virat Kohli also lost his wicket and till the stumps of the second day, the Indian team could score only 164 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is standing at the crease with Ravindra Jadeja. The Indian team is still 310 runs behind Australia.
Yashasvi's innings had an unfortunate end
Virat and Yashasvi had a partnership of 102 runs for the third wicket. But Virat Kohli and Yashasvi lost coordination on a ball from Scott Boland. The result was that Yashasvi was run out. Yashasvi played the last ball of the 41st over towards mid-on and ran to take a run.
Virat was watching the ball. He remained standing in the crease and Yashasvi reached him. Captain Pat Cummins picked up the ball at mid-on and threw it towards the wicketkeeper. Alex Carey comfortably came from behind and blew the bails and Yashasvi lost his wicket.
Virat made the same mistake again
Virat Kohli faced 86 balls and scored 36 runs. At one time it seemed that Virat Kohli had regained the form. But then Virat repeated the same mistake on the ball of fast bowler Scott Boland which he had made on several occasions in the past. Virat Kohli once again could not stop himself on the ball going outside the off stump and in the process of hitting the ball, he edged the ball. Virat gave a catch to the wicketkeeper on the ball outside the off stump of Scott Boland.
After Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out, Virat Kohli also could not stay on the crease for long. Yashasvi returned to the pavilion on a score of 153. Only one run was added to this when Virat also got out.
Kohli hit this 19-year-old player on the shoulder
On the first day of the fourth Test, Australia won the toss and decided to bat. 19-year-old opening batsman Sam Constas was making his debut in this match. Sam Constas showed a brilliant batting performance. He scored 60 runs in 65 balls. In his aggressive innings, Sam Constas hit 6 fours and 2 sixes. Amidst all this, a controversial incident also took place.
Actually, when the 10th over of the match was going on, Virat Kohli hit Sam Constas on his shoulder. After the match, Constas said that it was just an accident. But the match referee fined Virat Kohli Rs 2 lakh for this act. This is 20% of Kohli's match fee. After this incident, some people are supporting Kohli, while some people say that it is not right to treat a 19-year-old player who is playing his first international match like this.
Will Rohit Sharma be out of the team..?
Indian captain Rohit Sharma is going through bad form. In this entire series, Rohit has batted in 5 innings and has been able to score only 22 runs. Such form of the captain is a matter of concern for the entire team. In such a situation, the question now is whether Rohit will be able to score well in the second innings of the fourth Test. If not, will he be dropped from the fifth Test match, and in his place Sarfaraz Khan or some other player will be included in the playing 11.
