21-year-old Team India all-rounder Nitish Reddy said on Sunday that he has been working hard on his batting and bowling for the last two-three years and now he is getting results. Reddy has so far scored 293 runs in 6 innings of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and batted at an average of around 59. He is India's top scorer in the series.
Nitish Reddy revealed in a press conference in Australia that before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, many former players had said that a young player who has only played IPL cannot perform in such a big series.
After the match, when the Australian media asked about the role of his father Mutyalu, Nitish said, my father worked in the central government for 25 years. When I was nothing, I had not even played state-level cricket, the first person who believed in me was my father.
At the age of 12, Nitish heard his father being insulted by relatives. Nitish's father Mutyala Reddy took VRS from Hindustan Zinc and started a micro-finance business with Rs 20 lakh to fulfill Nitish's cricket dream. But the business suffered losses and friends did not repay the loan. Despite this, the family continued Nitish's cricket career.
Nitish Kumar Reddy said, "I could restore my father's dignity in only one way - by making it to the Indian team. At that time, the family could only afford to buy one bat worth Rs 15,000 in a year."
Nitish said, "My father resigned from my job for me. He used to take me to the ground and gym. If I have to tell about him, time will not be enough, but I am very grateful to have a father like him."
After Nitish scored a century on the third day of the Melbourne Test, his father Mutyala Reddy, who was present in the stands, became emotional.
I've been watching Virat since childhood: Nitish
"I have been watching Virat since childhood" Nitish said about Virat Kohli, I have been watching Virat since childhood. He is my idol. When he scored a century in Perth, I was at the non-striker end, I was very happy. Now, when I scored a century, he appreciated me. When he talked to me, it was the best moment for me. Virat said, you played brilliantly, you brought the team back into the match.
When Nitish was asked about the changes in his life in the last one month, he said, I am here to give my 100 percent. I am in the limelight for the last one or two months. But for me, the last two-three years have passed like this.
