Devendra Fadnavis to be next CM of Maharashtra, check key developments

Wednesday, December 4, marked a pivotal day in Maharashtra’s political landscape as the Mahayuti alliance took significant steps toward forming its new government. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party convened in Mumbai, where Devendra Fadnavis was unanimously elected its leader. Central BJP observers Nirmala Sitharaman and Vijay Rupani were present to oversee the process.

Fadnavis government again in Maharashtra

After the decision taken in the BJP Legislature Party meeting, Devendra Fadnavis supporters are seen happy. Now Devendra will meet the Governor of Maharashtra along with BJP MLAs. He will also stake claim to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony will be held in Azad Maidan, Mumbai on Thursday, 5 December in Maharashtra. Many senior BJP leaders will be present in this program along with PM Narendra Modi.

As BJP got huge majority in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, it was believed that the next Chief Minister will be from BJP. Now the name of Devendra Fadnavis, who was elected from Nagpur South West seat, has been finalized. Devendra has also been the CM of the state in the past. He was holding the responsibility of the post of Deputy CM in Eknath Shinde's government. Devendra Fadnavis also became the CM in 2019, however, he had to resign after two days.

The final decision on the Chief Minister's post, however, rests with the leaders of the alliance partners—BJP, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Shiv Sena. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, at 5 p.m.

Invitation for Swearing-in Ceremony Released

Devendra Fadnavis’ PR team officially released an invitation for the swearing-in ceremony. The invitation explicitly referred to Fadnavis as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with Deputy Chief Ministers and other ministers also set to be sworn in. The state government later confirmed the details by issuing an official invitation card.

Fadnavis: "Modi Hai to Mumkin Hai"

At the BJP Legislature Party meeting, Chandrakant Patil formally proposed Fadnavis’ name as leader, a motion seconded by other key BJP members, including Pankaja Munde. Expressing his gratitude, Fadnavis remarked, "This massive mandate is a significant responsibility toward Maharashtra. Modi hai to mumkin hai (With Modi, it's possible)." His unanimous election underscores the confidence BJP MLAs have in his leadership.
