IND vs AUS: What Is Sunil Gavaskar's Advice to Team India after 10-wicket defeat in Adelaide Test?

After India's 10-wicket defeat to Australia in the Adelaide Test, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar shared critical advice for Team India. Highlighting the need for immediate action, Gavaskar emphasized the importance of utilizing time effectively, especially when a match concludes prematurely.

Make the Most of Available Time

"The Test ended within three days," Gavaskar pointed out, urging the team to avoid idle time in hotel rooms. Instead, he advised the players to use the remaining two days for intensive practice. "Wasting time is not ideal—it should be used to hone one’s talent," he stressed.

Show greater commitment

Gavaskar criticized the concept of optional practice sessions, expressing disappointment in their lack of structure. According to him, the players must show greater commitment to the team's overall objectives.

Speaking to broadcasters, he remarked, "The Indian team should treat the remaining series as a three-match affair. Forget the original five-Test plan. What’s crucial is for the team to dedicate the upcoming days to rigorous practice."

He further added, "You cannot sit idle in your hotel or any other place because you’re here to play cricket. You don’t need to practice all day—pick a morning or afternoon slot. But make sure these days are utilized. If the Test had lasted five days, you'd have been out there playing. Now, it’s about using this time to get back into rhythm."

Practice: A Path to Recovery

Gavaskar highlighted the team’s challenges, stating that players have struggled to score runs and bowlers have failed to find their rhythm. "Some players need extra time on the field," he said, underscoring the importance of practice sessions.

He also stressed the coach and captain's responsibility in ensuring mandatory practice for all players. "Young players, especially, should be eager to spend more time on the field," Gavaskar suggested, calling for a collective effort to rebound from the defeat.

Praising Kohli’s Commitment

While criticizing the team’s lack of preparation, Gavaskar praised Virat Kohli for setting an example. On the third day of the Adelaide Test, Kohli chose to hit the nets, demonstrating his commitment to improvement. Gavaskar noted this as a positive step, encouraging others to follow suit.

Takeaway: Build Rhythm, Focus on Goals

Gavaskar’s advice reflects his belief in relentless practice as the cornerstone of success. He called on the team to rebuild their rhythm and sharpen their skills, urging a unified approach under the guidance of the coach and captain. With the series still open, his message is clear: dedication and effort over these crucial days can turn the tide in India's favor.
