An important meeting was held at Sharad Pawar's house on Tuesday regarding this controversy. Arvind Kejriwal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and other opposition leaders attended it. All the leaders unanimously decided to file a petition against the Election Commission. The opposition alleges that EVM tampering is behind the BJP's victory on 235 seats. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance got only 46 seats.

What EC said?

The Election Commission issued a statement on Tuesday saying that no mismatch was found between EVM and VVPAT slips in Maharashtra elections. The Commission had matched VVPAT slips of four booths of each assembly constituency during counting on November 23. A total of 1440 VVPAT units of 288 assembly constituencies were examined. The Commission clarified that all the allegations of the opposition are baseless.

VVPAT was not used properly: Opposition

VVPAT machine was first used in India in the 2014 general elections. It was made by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL). The purpose of this technology was to bring transparency in the election process, but the controversy of Maharashtra elections has raised questions on its credibility. The opposition claims that VVPAT was not used properly, which made it possible to manipulate the results.

What happened in Markadwadi village?

Voters in Markadwadi village of Malsiras assembly seat raised questions on EVM data. Villagers said that they voted for NCP candidate Uttamrao Jankar, but in the results, BJP's Ram Satpute was shown to have more votes. The villagers appealed for re-voting with ballot paper, which was rejected by the administration. On December 4, villagers themselves organized mock polling with ballot papers, but it was stopped and an FIR was registered against 17 people.
