Meta server outage: Social media platforms - WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook down worldwide, what Meta told?


Meta server outage: On Wednesday night (December 11), Meta's three major social media platforms - WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook - suddenly crashed. This outage affected millions of users around the world. This problem started in India from 11 pm. There was a problem in sending and receiving messages on WhatsApp. It became difficult to upload feeds on Instagram and Facebook. The Threads app was also affected by this outage. This situation persisted for about two hours, causing great inconvenience to the users.


Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, also confirmed that Meta's service was shut down. According to this, more than one lakh users complained about Facebook's outage. More than 70 thousand users filed a report regarding Instagram. Thousands of users also complained about WhatsApp.


'Technical defect'


The reason for Meta's server going down has not been fully clear yet.  Meta issued a statement on X confirming its global outage. The company said that this happened due to a technical flaw, due to which users had trouble accessing WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. Meta assured that their technical team is working quickly to fix the problem. The statement read, "We are aware that some users are having trouble accessing our apps. We are trying to fix it soon. Sorry for the inconvenience."
