Parliamentary Uproar Persists for Fifth Day, TMC Skips INDA Bloc Meeting Over Cong's Exclusive Focus On Adani

The winter session of Parliament continued to witness intense disruptions for the fifth consecutive day, as opposition parties raised the Adani and Sambhal issues in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Chants of "We Want Justice" echoed through both Houses, amplifying the opposition’s demand for accountability.

On Monday, parliamentary proceedings were severely curtailed, with the Lok Sabha functioning for only 14 minutes and the Rajya Sabha for about 15 minutes. In the preceding four days, just 40 minutes of deliberations were recorded across both Houses, highlighting the extent of the gridlock.

TMC Skips INDIA Bloc Meeting

Ahead of the parliamentary session, leaders of the INDIA alliance gathered under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, also participated in the meeting. However, the absence of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was notable.

TMC sources indicated that their priorities include addressing pressing issues such as unemployment, the ongoing situation in Manipur, and inflation. They expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress’s exclusive focus on the Adani controversy, suggesting a broader agenda for the session.

Impact on Parliamentary Business

The continuous disruptions prevented crucial discussions and legislative business. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar was unable to address the India-China border situation in the Lok Sabha. Similarly, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was unable to introduce the Banking Law Amendment Bill, which was slated for discussion.

PM Modi To Attend Screening of Sabarmati Report

Amid the ongoing turmoil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend a screening of the film Sabarmati Report at 4 p.m. in the Balayogi Auditorium of the Parliament Library. The film, which delves into the Godhra incident and the subsequent Gujarat riots, was released on November 15 and is expected to draw attention to those pivotal events.

As the winter session unfolds, the clash between the opposition and the ruling party continues to paralyze parliamentary proceedings. While opposition parties press for accountability on the Adani issue, the government faces the challenge of steering crucial legislative matters through the ongoing deadlock.
